MA in screenwriting fourth edition application period started

MA in Screenwriting is a joint masters programme arranged by University of Salford (Manchester, UK) and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK).

The programme wishes to develop film scripts that are innovative and creative but which are also commercially viable. For appropriate film scripts the School has the capacity to assist in developing production contacts at the Berlin Film Festival, Cannes and the American Film Market in Los Angeles.

Some short film scripts written in Finland will be produced by the Media Production programmes of Salford and Tampere.

The programme is taught entirely in English. Semester One will be taught in Tampere and Semester Two in Manchester. Semester Three, where the students write their MA Film Project, may be completed in either the UK or Finland.

The course will run from September 2010 until December 2011. Deadline for applications of Finnish students is May 5th 2010.

John Laxton, Université Jean Monnet, was here

Last week John Laxton, international coordinator and lecturer in communication from Université Jean Monnet, St Etienne, France, did staff exchange at TAMK.

He gave lectures in intercultural management, to media students at our Finlayson Campus and to business administration students at Kuntokatu Main Campus. John Laxton's schedule also included discussions with TAMK staff members, a sightseeing in Tampere and visits to proAkatemia and Demola.

Université Jean Monnet and TAMK have regular staff and student exchange in the field of Business Administration.

TiTeLAN LANparty @ Demola 9.-11.4.2010

Our own LANparty is here again! This time the party will be held in new premises in Demola, Finlayson and is on the whole weekend!

TiTeLAN is organized by Computer Systems Engineering students twice a year. Usually we have had around 70 visitors but this year since we got new premises the amount may rise close to 100 visitors. The event is absolutely FREE of charge and we welcome all TAMK students as well as our exchange students. Doors will open on Friday around 6pm and the event will be finished on Sunday afternoon.

Arts Council of Finland and AVEK grants for ”Youth as a Refugee” project

The community art project being made for Europe’s Capital of Culture year 2010 exhibition in Dortmund has received a grant from Arts Council of Finland and R&D grant from AVEK (The Promotion Centre for Audiovisual Culture).

Going by the working title ”Youth as a Refugee”, the project is is being made by artist Pekka Niskanen and the art students Anna Knappe, Timo Piikkilä and Jaana Riistola together with young refugees from Lammi reception centre and Härmälä group and group family homes.

AVEK’s R&D subsidy , Vieteri, is meant for the development of new forms of audiovisual expression and narrative potential.  ”Youth as a Refugee” project has also been supported by the Finnish Labour Museum Werstas and Finnish Refugee Council. During the project the team teaches the young to film and edit videos, in which they get to tell about their life in the reception centres. The finished videos will be gathered into a website that opens in summer 2010.

There will be eight art projects by TAMK Fine Art students at Dortmund’s Inter-cool 3.0 exhibition. You can learn more about Intercool 3.0 exhibition from the blog post "Art students join Damien Hirst in an exhibition".

The Inter-cool 3.0 exhibition opens 17 September in Dortmund, after which it will be also shown in Wien, Leeds and Tampere.
