Hokkaido University Helsinki Office Opening Ceremony

Hokkaido University (HU) opened its third office to Helsinki 1st of June. HU is one of the TAMK’s partner universities and the international cooperation between the two universities is in the field of engineering. Before opening an office to Helsinki HU has established offices to Beijing and Seoul. The main objective of Helsinki office is to broaden HU’s relationships not only to Finnish universities, but also with the European universities, and those in the former Soviet Union. So, Helsinki and Finland is a gateway to Europe and its neighboring countries!

The official opening ceremony included welcome addresses, panel discussion about cooperation between Japan and Europe, visit to the office and commemorative symposium about Japanese Pop Culture. From TAMK the quests invited to the opening ceremony were Ms Marja Sutela, Vice President of TAMK and Ms Kirsi Tolvanen, Head of International Services of TAMK.

During the opening ceremony it became very clear that there are many similarities between Japan and Finland. And there is already a lot of business cooperation between the two countries. But what is needed more in the future is the research cooperation and academic exchange.

BE AMBITIOUS!, the slogan of Hokkaido University, well describes how the Japanese see the international cooperation. TAMK wants to congratulate HU for opening its European office to Helsinki and is very much looking forward to collaborate with HU colleagues also in the future!
